I have included answers to the most common questions I am asked. Please get in contact if you have a question I haven't covered by emailing me at carolegallagherdickie@gmail.com or via the website contact form.
What types of psychological interventions do you offer?
I draw on a range of evidence-based psychological interventions tailored to your individual needs and preferences. My main training is in Cognitive Behavioral therapy (CBT) and Person-Centered therapy. I also integrate interventions from additional therapeutic approaches to best support your unique experience.
What difficulties do you work with?
I work with adults aged 18+ experiencing a range of difficulties including (and not exclusive to) anxiety, stress, low mood, low self-esteem, chronic illness, disordered eating and relationship and family difficulties. Please feel free to contact me for further information.
Can I be assured of confidentiality?
Your confidentiality will be maintained in accordance with the legal and professional frameworks set out by the British Psychological Society, the Health and Care Professions Council and the Data Protection Act 1998.
What should I expect from the initial stages of therapy?
Each course of therapy is tailored to the unique experience of the client. In initial sessions (typically the first three sessions), I tend to work together with clients to conduct a comprehensive assessment of the difficulties that have brought them to therapy and reach an agreement about which way of working is most likely to meet their needs. This tends to form the focus of our future sessions and will be reviewed and modified as necessary.
How often should I attend sessions?
Research has shown an association between regular sessions (weekly or fortnightly) and positive outcomes, particularly in the early stages of therapy. Ad hoc sessions are typically advised as a means of reviewing your progress and wellbeing following an intitial course of therapy.
How long is each session?
Each session is around 50 minutes.
What qualifications do you have?
I hold the following qualifications:
DPsych Counselling Psychology, Glasgow Caledonian University (2023)
BSc (First Class Honours), Psychology, The Open University (2015)
BA Social Science, Glasgow Caledonian University (2003)
What is the fee for sessions?
The fee of £90 for self-funded clients is payable 48 hours in advance of the agreed session by BACS. I have limited online availability for concessionary rates which applies to trainee practitioners and individuals on low income. Please contact me for further information.
Informal discussions about my service and the possibility of working together prior to booking an appointment are not charged.
